Renewable energy:

  • Solar energy
  • Biogas construction

The Project Coordinator in Dormaa Ahenkro was partly supported to do mechanical Engineering as part of alternative energy sources. The idea was born from the fact that the areas we operate are not connected to the national grid. The cost using electricity in the rural areas are costly because in terms buildings they live and the Bills they must pay.
The solar energy we provide has proven to be cost effective due power rationing from the National grid. Children rely on the solar power to do their homework during nights and businesses overcome intermittent operations due to National power failure.
The provision of solar streetlights improve security without being controlled since they have self-controlled built-in system.
The use of Generators in the absence from National grid is comparatively cheaper in monetary costs. However, the use of fossil fuel with its environmental hazards makes it unattractive to Climate change campaigns. Thought solar is the answer to these treats, the initial cost outlay to start Solar is a challenge to the rural customers whom we target in providing alternative environmentally friendly energy.
The next phase of this project is to improve Biogas to bio-CNG, where the biogas is treated from carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulphide and water trace so that it can be compressed into steel cylinders to run Generators to produce electricity as part of biomass project and training center.

Advantages of biogas project:

  • It is renewable energy for cooking and to generate electrical power.
  • It uses by-products of livestock like dung and in a way used as a tool for waste management.
  • It helps to solve challenges of waste disposal which a huge problem in Ghana.
  • The digested slurry is used as a liquid organic fertilizer.
  • Biogas has less carbon footprint as compared to burning of firewood as source of cooking fuel.
  • Smoke is a health hazard, and it is not found in biogas.
  • Felling of trees to produce firewood and charcoal is replaced with production of biogas and provision of Solar energy which are environmentally friendly.
  • The provision of solar cooker for farmers takes care of risks associated with bush burning.
